How to Submit the Biennial Certification

Equipment Custodians will get an email notification with detailed instrustions to help complete the Binennial Certifitication as follows:

Dear Unit Custodian,

This is to alert you that your biennial inventory equipment certification for custody code (####) must be completed and returned no later than (Due date). This requires returning the completed certification form signed by you and your department head. We encourage you to return your certification well before the deadline. The biennial certification of inventorial property is mandated by University of California policy (BFB-BUS 29, Section III, J-1).

A copy of the BET920 list of accountable assets you are certifying associated with custody code (####) is included with this message. Certification means you have verified each asset personally or through written confirmation from a PI, lab manager or other knowledgeable individual (the secondary confirmation need not be included with the completed certification form). Should you require a reprint of the inventory, you may do so via BETS application by:

  • Access BETS at https://bets.berkeley.edu/

  • Log-in and click on the Reports drop down menu.

  • Select the Details (BET920). A selection box opens defaulting to Inventorial Equipment

  • Click the Run Report button

Return the certification form by scanning the signed document and emailing a copy to BETSHelp@berkeley.edu with the subject line reading Biennial Certification Enclosed. Please note that your supervisor is copied on this communication as a person responsible for compliance of the biennial certification in your absence.

For Equipment Custodian Supervisors: If a new department Equipment Custodian has been assigned, you should notify Equipment Management immediately via BETSHelp@berkeley.edu of their name, email and phone number.

Following the return of your completed certification form, Equipment Management may perform a random on-site verification audit. Should you be scheduled for such an audit, you can instead take a current, date stamped photo of the assets and property tag, and upload that photo into BETS before the audit date. Directions for uploading photos into BETS can be found at: https://property.berkeley.edu/equipment/upload-photos.

Please contact Equipment Management (Betshelp) if you have any questions.
